Label TextBorn in Birmingham, England, William Langley painted images of rural and costal scenes from areas around Britain between 1880-1920. His style was very similar to other artists of the time. He signed his paintings ‘W Langley’ which caused confusion to some because there was another artist working at the time named Walter Langley. It is unknown if his signature was originally intended to be deceptive but at one point in his career he was put in jail for six months for attempting to pass of his work as Walter Langley. He was then told that he must stop signing his work ‘W Langley’.
