Label TextThe Battle of Bunker Hill, fought on June 17, 1775, was one of the earliest and most significant engagements of the American Revolutionary War. Taking place on the Charlestown Peninsula near Boston, colonial forces fortified Breed’s Hill (often confused with nearby Bunker Hill) to challenge the advancing British Army. Although the British ultimately captured the hill after two costly assaults, suffering heavy casualties, the battle demonstrated the determination and resilience of the colonial militias. The fight became a powerful symbol of American courage and resistance, rallying support for the revolutionary cause and proving that inexperienced colonial troops could stand against one of the world’s most formidable armies. The battle also underscored the strategic importance of controlling high ground and marked a turning point in the early conflict for morale and propaganda on both sides. This bread plate was produced one hundred years after the battle.
