Label TextFrom the University Museums Collections Handbook, vol. 2, 2025: Inspired by the wide unbroken horizon line of many Iowa landscapes, Field references cultivated land and the agriculture of the state. The two layers of glass have a painted effect, with the image shifting slightly as the viewer moves through the Harl Commons space. Commissioned as part of a 2013 remodel of historic Curtiss Hall, this installation integrates art seamlessly into the architecture of the building and surrounds this student meeting space with a window of sorts to the outside world. A variety of agricultural industries are represented in the glass barrier, with cattle grazing in the pasture and fields of corn and soybeans. Corinne Ulmann is a public artist who often works in glass and painting in her installations. She holds a master’s degree in both architecture and painting, and these elements combine in her art to create an integrated, painterly quality to the installations within public spaces.
