Label TextAfter the properties of jasperware were rediscovered, having been somewhat lost for much of the early to mid-19th century, experimentation in colors expanded. Crimson, along with dark olive green, was a color that was coveted, but was never truly successful. It was only made for a few years as the deep red color had the propensity to bleed into the white sprigged decoration during firing, ruining the desired crispness of the designs. The striking combination of the yellow dipped jasper ground with black decoration was also only produced for a few years from the 1920s into the 1930s. This constant experimentation was the most important aspect of Josiah’s legacy and an important part of such a successful business that needed to constantly stay ahead of the competition.
