Label TextDr. Lamkey has served as department chair since 2007. His research focuses on the application of quantitative genetics to plant breeding problems in corn. Lamkey ran an inbred line development program and conducts several recurrent selection programs. Since becoming chair, he developed, led and support the “I’m An Agronomist” branding and marketing campaign to increase agronomy undergraduate enrollment from 106 in 2006 to 323 in 2017. Furthermore, the brand campaign has increased awareness of the industry across the world. In addition, to the credit of his personal passion, the number of women in agronomic sciences has increased by almost ten percent since 2006. Dr. Lamkey was elected Fellow of the Crop Science Society of America in 2002 and Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy in 2010. In 2017, Dr. Lamkey contributed to the Association of Public Land-grant Universities global effort called the “Challenge of Change Commission” of as chair of the Sustainable Production Systems working group.
