Label TextDuring the reign of K'ang Hsi (1662-1722), European subjects were only periodically copied, but from about the mid-eighteenth century onward, Chinese porcelain painters copied prints, drawings, and paintings sent to Canton. The imagery on this plate is based on a European print of two lovers below a flying cupid. Scenes were frequently borrowed from the prints of Watteau and Boucher for the decoration of both Chinese export porcelain and European porcelains.
