Label TextThis sculpture conjures up the visuals of the landscape surrounding the artist’s studio in New Hartford, Iowa. Expansive horizons give a sense of place, anchoring the artist to the land. Stancliffe sees this landscape as a blank canvas, and is the visual context he has worked within for years.
A crow pulls a weighty branch through the frame, bringing change and disruption to the serene scene. The repetition of the curvature in the horizon line, the framing of the sculpture, as well as the landscape surrounding the quintessential American home create movement and a reference to change throughout the sculpture, anchored by the architectural element of the cornice piece.
