Label TextThis teacup and saucer were created under the direction of Johann Gregor Horoldt, who was given the title of Court Commissioner and Director of Painters at the Meissen Factory in 1731. Horoldt influenced the style of Meissen porcelain for the first half of the 18th century with his artistic style that included elongated oriental figures and the asymmetrical Kakiemon style.
This fir-in-the-landscape Kakiemon deisgn is painted in over-glaze enamels and also includes Indianische Blumen a floral style based on Japanese porcelains that arrived in Europe on ships of the East India Companies. This style was extensively used at Meissen until the introduction of Deutche Blumen, when it as gradually discarded and not seen on wares after 1740.
MarkingsTwo crossed swords in underglaze blue-the Meissen trademark. The cross swords from the Arms of Saxony, used from 1725 onwards, painted in blue, rarely in gold, purple or red. Peterson p33.
