Label TextPearlware was initially the work of Josiah in the late 18th century. After perfecting creamware he was constantly asked if he could create a whiter body and along with that to use blue enamels in his transfer printing and painitng, which had long been popular since the arrival of blue and white Asian porcelain. Unfortunately the creamy ivory color of the creamware muddied the blue and was unattractive, so Josiah set out to create a whiter body. By the early 19th century pearlware was in production and was perfectly suited to take the blue enameling that was so desired by consumers in England and throughout the world.
