Label TextLudwig Herman wad best known for his work displaying urban landscapes, seascapes, and architectural views. Ludwig Herman was an artist born in Greifswald, Germany in April 1812. It is not known where Herman studied art but he was influenced by the artists of the Romantic School. An important painter that may have had an influence on Ludwig during his lifetime were B.C. Koekkoek, Koekkoek started an academy in Kleve in 1841 which was attended by my students from Germany, Netherlands, and surrounding Countries. Ludwig lived and worked in Berlin and also had his first exhibition there in 1850. From 1862 until 1873 he showed his work in Berlin, Bremen, Leipzig, and London.
