Label TextThis painting is a copy of the original painting done by Rosa Bonheur. Rosa Bonheur’s paintings were based off her love for animals and nature, which translated through to her work. Rosa owned many animals including lions, horses, and an otter. Rosa gained experience and training through lessons with her father, Oscar-Raymond Bonheur, who was an artist and socialist, and his collaborator. Rosa never attended formal art classes. From the beginning Rosa was most interested in animals and the natural world and would rarely stray from that. Rosa Bonheur created a relationship with the house of Goupil in Paris. Through the years after that her images of her paintings were reproduced by Lefervre in London and Goupil and Peyrol in Paris, this got her name out and therefor increased her fame. The peak of her career was her paint Le Marche aux Chevaux “The Horse Fair.” When it was finished in 1853 and displayed at the Salon, Rosa was only 31 years old. This painting created Rosa’s international fame. During that time no other woman had achieved the amount of work Rosa had, and no animal painter had produced work compared to the size of Rosa’s Le Marche aux Chevaux painting.
