Label TextGeorge W. Catt was born March 9, 1860 in Davenport, Iowa. He received a B.S. (1882) in civil engineering from Iowa State Agricultural College (Iowa State University).
Catt worked (1882-1885) for the King Bridge Company of Cleveland, Ohio in their Des Moines, Iowa office. He then worked for the San Francisco Bridge Company. In 1893, Catt formed and became president of the New York Dredging Company. Soon after, he began the Atlantic Gulf and Pacific Company, of which he became president and manager.
On June 10, 1890, Catt married Carrie Lane Chapman. He died October 8, 1905 in New York City after a sudden illness. In accordance with his last will and testament, Catt's body was donated to medical science.
