Label TextThe Brenton Center's public art philosophy statement expresses that public works of art will reflect the dynamics of teaching and learning. Teaching is an interactive process among individuals who exhibit the desire and excitement to intellectually grow and develop professionally as members of society. Through internalizing concepts, principles and skills, learning occurs when individuals acquire and apply a new understanding of knowledge. Technology represents a means for enhancing the teaching-learning process. Technology can improve interaction, stimulate interest and desire, unlock avenues to learning, and help to clarify or interpret data, ideas and often innovation in addressing content. Richard Leet (b. 1936) was born in Waterloo, Iowa. He attended the University of Northern Iowa in 1958 to receive his B.A. From the years 1958-1965 he was an art instructor for Oelwein Community Schools. He completed his graduate studies between the years 1961-1964 at the University of Iowa and received his M.A. at the University of Northern Iowa in 1965. In this same year he founded the Charles H. MacNider Museum in Mason City, Iowa.
