Label TextKacho-e, or 'bird and flower' prints, expanded on traditional Japanese style and composition by incorporating a new Western perspective and depth. Birds and flowers had always been common subjects in Japanese prints and paintings, but Japanese collectors preferred prints of landscapes or actors. Kacho-e, however, was quite popular with Western collectors, and the majority of 'bird and flower' prints were exported to the West, where they influenced the work of mid-19th century artists such as Monet and Degas.
