Label TextThis sculptural vase suggests red and blue anthocyanin pigments that are one of several classes of pigments produced by plants. The accumulation of these pigments is controlled by genetic factors. The human beings who domesticated crops saved genetic variants that accumulated novel pigments. The presence or absence of a single gene determines whether maize kernels accumulate blue or red anthocyanins.
