Label TextErnest W. Lindstrom (1891-1948) received a B.S. (1914) from the Universtiy of Wisconsin and a Ph.D. (1917) from Cornell University. He came to Iowa State as a professor and head of genetics in 1922 and served in that capacity for 25 years. He was Vice-Dean of the Graduate College from 1936 to 1948. He was granted a leave of absence on two occasions - 1927 to 1929 to serve with the Rockefeller Foundation in France and in 1944-45 to become a visiting professor in Colombia, South America. His oustanding work was in the chromosome mapping of corn and the quantitative inheritance of tomato polyploidy. He served as president of the Genetics Society of America in 1942.
This plaque design was never realized.
