Not on viewLabel TextEven though Darling’s higher education experience was adventuresome and tumultuous, he always believed in the value of an educated citizenry for the benefit of a free nation. In this cartoon, the world globe is illustrated as an animated and intimidating individual with large teeth, hands pulled to side with fists curled as ready for battle. Around the world is a sign “The Hard Hard World”. In front of the world sits a young man in graduation gown and cap with a question mark above his head. Darling implies the coming economic challenges, growing political unrest in Europe, and other current events will make life’s journey for the recent graduate a challenge. Indeed this era produced the Greatest Generation.
