Label TextThe murals focus on Iowa and its biomass to fuels and chemicals industry. The Iowa State University BioCentury Research Farm is the first-in-the-nation integrated research and demonstration facility dedicated to biomass production and processing. The facility presents a unique opportunity for industry collaboration and focuses on accelerating innovation and production capacity associated with biobased fuels, chemicals, and products. ______ The murals focus on Iowa and its biomass to fuels and chemicals industry -- following the research, education and demonstration projects at the BECON facility. The composing elements include: •State-wide energy interrelationships with business, industry and education. •Education and the student experience, including the use of pilot-scale biomass conversion systems for demonstration and instruction. •The transfer of credible, firsthand information on biomass technologies that create fuels and chemicals. •Iowa within the global community as it relates to energy technology. •An intellectually stimulating workplace. •Environmental stewardship, enhanced human resources and quality of life in Iowa. The BECON facility in Nevada, Iowa is home to Iowa's most innovative and collaborative biomass projects. The large-scale conversion systems at BECON process agricultural-related biomass into fuels and chemicals. Ultimately, these projects could function as a biorefinery, one relying on the other, minimizing waste, and using abundant biomass feedstocks to produce a multitude of products in a closed loop system. In a rural setting, a biorefinery such as this could benefit Iowa communities by generating products that are economically viable. The Iowa Energy Center is dedicated to increasing Iowa’s energy efficiency and use of renewable resources. Research, education, and demonstration programs supported by the Energy Center address energy-related issues and their associated economic and environmental benefits
