Label TextThe American Centennial of 1876 marked the nation’s first hundred years of independence and celebrated the survival and growth of the United States after the Civil War. Through exhibitions showcasing industrial innovation, technological progress, and national culture, it reinforced a shared sense of identity and optimism about America’s future. Produced in 1876 to mark the American Centennial, this selection of pressed glass features the iconic image of the Liberty Bell, an enduring symbol of American ideals. The inscription, “Proclaim Liberty Throughout All the Land Unto All the Inhabitants Thereof,” reflects the nation’s founding values. Pressed glassware like this grew in popularity during the Victorian Era for their practicality and decorative charm and became a staple in American homes. The patriotic 1876 designs are modified and reproduced in 1976 to mark the American Bicentennial. https://www.nps.gov/inde/learn/historyculture/stories-libertybell.htm
