Preparatory Drawing for Arabidopsis Genomic Rug, 2004
Colored pencil on paper
In the Art on Campus Model and Maquette Collection, University Museums, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa.
U2007.1a-g
This drawing is a preparatory study for a porcelain carpet design installed in the floor in the Carver Co-Laboratory Building. The bar-code image represents the simple, cellular structure of the small Arabidopsis plant, a genus of the mustard family that has white, yellow or purplish flowers. The genomics of this plant are researched by plant scientists as a model organism to further study plant developmental processes, and in the case at Iowa State, to better understand the genomics of corn and soybean plants. It is through this scientific investigation that genomic projects are transforming life forms.
