Label TextWarren Madden received his undergraduate degree in engineering in 1961 at Iowa State University and pursued his MBA from the University of Chicago. Warren is married to Beverly, a 1960 (BS) and 1970 (MS) Iowa State University graduate in home economics. Together they have served in virtually every professional and volunteer capacity that the University and surrounding community might offer.
Since 1984, Warren has been vice president for business and finance at Iowa State University. As students, Beverly and Warren participated in the Greek system, band, and VEISHEA together. After their marriage, when Beverly's faculty appointment in home economics required her to supervise the home management house where three dozen female students lived, Warren became the chaperone. With typical low-key humor, he refers to them as "the first 36 women I lived with."
Forty years later, the Maddens can be found at virtually every Iowa State event--whether a museum opening, band concert, football game, or alumni ceremony. Their two sons are Iowa State graduates and Warren and Beverly (they are so well-known that first name suffice) are generous donors to everything from the refurbished dome of Beardshear Hall to acquisition of Christian Petersen's sculptures, Joy and Abraham Lincoln in the University Art Collections.
Both have been honored by their professional associations and are recognized volunteer leaders for Ames and Story County nonprofits. ISU President Gregory L. Geoffrey acknowledged Warren's long tenure under four university presidents by saying, "He has a vast knowledge of the university and a great historical context."
One gets the impression that neither Warren nor Beverly Madden would have wanted a legacy anywhere else by Iowa State.
