The publishing firm of G. Putnam Broadway was founded by George Palmer Putnam in 1848. On his death in 1872 the name of the firm was changed to G. P. Putnam's Sons. In 1965 the firm acquired Berkley Books and became known as Putnam Berkley. Putnam Berkley was bought by Penguin in 1997, and is part of the Pearson Group. See www.pearson.com.
