John Massey RhindScottish-American, 1860 - 1932

Born in Edinburg, Scotland, came to America in 1889. Third generation sculptor, studied in London with Dalou. Arrived in America when Beaux-Arts style was beginning to incorporate decorative sculpture into architectural designs. Leading carver of ornamentation. (Sculpture in America by Wayne Craven) Rhind received numerous commissions for public works, i.e. doors for Trinity Church, memorial fountain in Albany dedicated to Rufus King memory. Rhind's work continued with the Beaux-Arts style and did not change during his lifetime.
