John MiltonEnglish, 1608 - 1674
Milton's first teacher was his father. At age twelve, Milton was admitted to St. Paul's School and later entered Christ's College in Cambridge, England. He began to write poetry in Latin, English and Italian during this time. Spent six years after Cambridge at his father's home writing. In 1635 the Milton family moved to Horton, Buckinghamshire and John travelled in France and Italy, meeting Hugo Grotius and Galileo. Milton returned to London in 1639 and set up a school. In 1651 Milton became blind but this helped to stimulate his verbal richness. In the 1660s, Milton moved with his third wife, Elizabeth Minschull, to what is now Burnhill Row. Milton died on November 8,1674 in Chalfont, St. Giles, Buckinghamshire.
