The Madison Book Company was founded in Chicago in 1902 by Frank K. Reilly and Sumner C. Britton. In 1904 the firm's name was changed to Reilly and Britton Publishing Company. Britton left the firm in 1916, and from 1919 William F. Lee became a full partner and the firm became Reilly and Lee Publishing Company.
