Taylor and FarleyAmerican (Worcester, MA), 1855 - 1885
Simeon Taylor and John A. Taylor went into partnership building melodeons as “Taylor & Farley” in 1855. Their factories were located in Worcester, Massachusetts, with warerooms in Rochester, NY. The firm was very successful and enjoyed substantial growth, adding organs and harmoniums to their product line by 1862. The firm was officially incorporated in 1870. After the turn of the 20th Century, the firm began to suffer as a result of the continued decline of the reed organ’s popularity in favor of the piano in Victorian society. The firm went out of business in about 1885.
