The publishing firm of Ticknor and Fields was founded in 1854 as the successor to Ticknor, Reed and Fields. In 1880 Ticknor and Fields merged with the Riverside Press, which was owned by Henry Houghton and George Mifflin, to form Houghton Mifflin and Company.
