Nickola de Grandmaison was born in Russia, Feb. 24, 1892. Lived in Banff, Canada and Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Listed as Canadian artist. Began to sketch in 1923 in American Southwest. In 1925 he switched from oils to pastels. He was the only painter allowed to paint High Eagle who was the last survivor of Custer's fight.
