Ferguson's choice of media has changed as he experiments with photography and mechanically driven, 3-d constructions, while consistently making prints and paintings.

___________

Carlos Ferguson received his B.A. degree from Grinnell College and his M.A. and M.F.A. in Printmaking from the University of Iowa. He has produced a large body of work, as well as fulfilling teaching assignments at Berea College in Kentucky, Ithaca College in New York, Arrowmont School of Art and Craft in Gatlinburg, TN, the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. The imagery and media of Ferguson's work has fluctuated over the past several years. His most recent work takes the form of "Suspended Worlds." They look like plain boxes or cylinders, but a peek into one of the "Worlds" reveals a playful scene. The assemblages hang from the ceiling with pulley systems so viewers of all heights can view their magical interiors. Trained as a painter and printmaker, viewers still see some of the small, lofty views in his earlier paintings, which delicately detailed scenes of interstate clover-leafs, distant landscapes, and quiet winter streets. He has also completed oils depicting the distant Busch Gardens under a moist sky, an urban swimming pool with swimmers' heads bobbing in reflected blue light, a diner's view of a large restaurant, or a passenger's perspective from the back of a metropolitan bus. Ferguson's works have been included in a range of juried national exhibitions. His works hang in private and public collections including those of Sprint, University of Kansas, Spencer Museum in Lawrence, Chattahoochee Valley Art Museum, Grinnell College, the University Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Columbia University.
