1865- Born in Bombay

1870-taken to England and placed in Calvinistic foster home

1882- leaves school to return to India

1887- sent to Allahabad to work on important paper "The Pioneer"

1889- Leaves India for England and settlesin Villiers Street, Strand

1890 and on- many of Kiplings works ar epublished, including "The Jungle Book" in 1894.

1892- marries Carolyn Baleister and lives in Brattleville, VT

1897- Moves family back to England

1899 Eldest daughter, Josephine, dies while Kipling is in South Africa.

1907- Becomes the first English author to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature

1916- Kipling's son killed with the Irish Guards

1917-1934 more work published, such as "Songs of the Sea" and "Book of Words"

1936- Rudyard Kipling dies January 18th of a perforated duodenum.
