Ted "Sitting Crow" Garner(Native American, b. 1957)

Born in 1957, Ted Sitting Crow Garner has been involved with sculpture in the Chicago area and nationally since 1973, producing his own sculpture since 1975. He is an enrolled member of the Standing Rock Sioux Indian tribe, of Sihasapa and Minneconjou band affiliation. His work has been included in 6 major touring exhibits of Native American artists, all with illustrated catalogs. He has been honored with numerous prizes and awards including a purchase award at the 1996 “New Art of the West 5” exhibit at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis IN, a 1995 nomination for the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Fellowship; and grants from the Jerome and Warhol Foundations. In addition to private collections nationwide, his work may be found in the public collections of the City of Chicago’s Public Art Program, the Iowa State Botanic Gardens, Ames IA, the Chicago Children's Museum, the Palm Springs Desert Museum, Palm Springs CA, and the Washington State Arts Commission, Olympia, WA among others.He is also a published photographer, essayist, poet, editor, songwriter...and JEOPARDY champion.
