William MoorcroftEnglish, 1872 - 1945
Wm. Moorcroft was a master potter trained at the Wedgwood Inst., in Burslem, from 1867 to 1895. He experimented with decorative pottery at Mac Intyres, alsoin Burslem. He founded the firm of W. Moorcroft, Ltd. in Colbridge in 1913. Here he produced 'powdered' blue effects, raised outline decorative pottery and fine wares with flambe glazes (Mankowitz, p156). He was an appointed potter to Queen Mary (Moorcroft label). Died in 1945, his son Walter took over designing but died in 2002.
