Umberto BellorroItalian, 1882 - 1940

Bellorro was an artist born in Venice in 1882, the son of a Venetian blacksmith. He inherited the family business when he was only 19 years old and immediately embarked on a journey of experimentation with ironwork. As native of the Serenissima, he very close to the master glassmakers of Murano, and designed wrought iron and blown glass works for Barovier or Fratelli Toso from 1910 to 1928. He gained recognition at the Venice Biennale of 1914 where he exhibited a collection of eccentric works, combining iron with an array of antithetical materials such as leather, ceramic and glass. After 1928, he went to Rome to decorate state buildings.

He passed away in 1940 in his hometown.
