Jeno Jusko
WPA artist Jeno Juszko created a bronze bust of General George Henry Thomas. The bust with four others of famous Civil War General will be presented officially by the WPA Federal Art Project to the city and Grant Monument Association at the April 27th Grant birthday celebration. JUSZKO, Jeno (1880-1954) Hungarian-American sculptor, medalist.
Name variants: used Jean Juszko prior 1924, also Jeno Jusko.
Born Ungvay, Hungary, 26 November 1880.
Came to America and New York City 1906.
He taught at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art
1913-1914 and National Academy of Design 1919-1924.
Noted for his portraits of national interest, company
presidents, and personal friends (including Weil and
Trees families, owners of Medallic Art Company).
Also his 33 portraits in three series for coin dealer
Thomas L. Elder (see Relief Series below).
His medallic production stretched over six decades.
Signed models J.J. initials, monogram or name in full.
Fellow: National Sculpture Society.
Died New York City, 5 January 1954.
