Susan Anne Glass
Susan Anne Glass began her glass studies and career in 1983 at the renowned Pilchuck
Glass School and Pratt Fine Arts Center, where she continued to work and teach. In 1992,
she completed building her own studio, The Glass Kingdom, in Washington. Susan's work
is often characterized by signature swirls of glass that wrap around the edge and body of
the piece. She prefers the freedom of movement and the optical effect of light traveling
through clear, vibrant colors. Shape is a concomitant of color, in that mixing colors within
the heated process helps create the lyrical fluted forms.
Her degree in chemistry and training certification in flower arranging, Ikebana, from the
Sogetsu School of Japanese Flower Arranging, has allowed her to bring out the
uniqueness of each piece she creates. The sinuous lines of her work relate closely to their
organic origins, and like flower bearing plants, each offers a new and unique design.
Susan Anne Glass, artist, teacher, philanthropist, civic leader, beloved wife, mother, sister
and grandmother passed unexpectedly on March 2, 2005.
