Art ReedAmerican, b. 1953
Glassblower, Delancey, N.Y.
Why Glassblowing?"It suits my personality," says Reed. "Because of the nature of molten glass, you can't set it down and come back to it later. I like that it is spontaneous yet immediate."
His inspiration: "The process of blowing and manipulating hot glass still intrigues me," Reed says. "My greatest inspiration is the inherent qualities of the glass."
Glassblowing has always been Art Reed's passion. Following high school, Reed took courses at the Penland School of Crafts, in Penland, N.C., and at the Pilchuck Glass School, in Stanwood, Wash. Today he works out of his studio in upstate New York and attends eight to 10 craft shows a year.
