Seymour LiptonAmerican, 1903 - 1986
He married Lillian Franzblau in 1930. Lipton has been a sculptor since 1928. His orginal medium was wood carving, but soon switched to metal, which has been his primary medium since. Originally trained as a dentist, he had no specific art training, was practiced dentistry until 1938, when he gave up his practice to pursue an art career full-time. He taught at the New School for Social Research, starting in 1940 until 1965. He also taught at the Cooper Union (1943), New Jersey Teachers College (1944-46), and Yale University Art School (1957-59). Lipton often exhibited in group shows and is a primier public art artist. He and his wife had two sons, Michael ( born 1935) and Alan ( born 1941).
