Continental Silver Co

Artist Info
Continental Silver CoAmerican (New York, NY), 1920 - 1950

The Continental Silver Company was based in Brooklyn, New York, and operated from 1920 to 1950, achieving the height of its fame mid-century. During this time, when the gifting of aluminum wares was at its apex, aluminum manufacturers found ever more new and exciting ways to ornament their products. Nature motifs were an immensely popular evergreen choice, but equally familiar were the novel scenes depicting sporting events like polo, sailing, fox hunting, and more. So sought-after had aluminum become that manufacturers were even able to cater to a more affluent clientele, who, in past decades and centuries, would have opted for pricier materials.

In the middle of the twentieth century, aluminum had transcended its somewhat denigrating title of “poor man’s silver.” One of the companies responsible for this shift in public consciousness was the Continental Silver Company.
