Everett D. Swagert
Born in 1925 in Galesburg, Illinois. Attended University of Pennsylvania, Bradley University and Ohio State, Bachelor of Architecture, 1950. He was in the Navy College training Program and Commissioned an Engisn USNR, 1945. Project aArchitect, Janssen, Daseking and Keller, Architects, Menlo Park, Calif from 1950-1963. 1963 to 1965 in private practice in Palo Alto, Calif. From 1965 to 1976 Stanford University, Senior planner, Office of Facilities Planning and Construction. 1976-1990, University Architect, Iowa State University.
Everett D. Swagert age 84 of Ames, Iowa died Wednesday, February 17 at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames. No service is being planned at this time.
Everett was born Nov. 6, 1925 in Galesburg, IL the son of Samuel L. and Cornelia (Dobbs) Swagert. He graduated from Galesburg High School . He then joined the US Navy in the V12 program, attending the University of Pennsylvania. He was commissioned as an officer, retiring from the Naval Reserve in 1955. He and May Young were wed on Dec. 31, 1948 in Manhattan, NY. He then attended Bradley University for one year before graduating from The Ohio State University in 1950 where he received his B Arch. He was in private practice and an architectural planner at Stanford University before coming to Iowa State University in 1976 as the University Architect.
Everett was a member of Association of University Architects where he was past president, Iowa Watercolor Society, and Tau Beta Pi at The Ohio State University. Upon retirement Everett’s passion included watercolor art, drawing and photography.
Everett is survived by his wife May of Ames, their children, Dr. John and Karen Swagert of Paradise Valley, AZ, Susan Swagert and Stan Jefferson of Palo Alto CA, Martha and James Meyer of Edwards, MO, grandchildren, Sarah Meyer, Rob Jefferson, Laura Jefferson, Thomas Meyer, and Sam Swagert, and a sister Sara Mize of Peoria, IL.
