Anson Davies Fitz Randolph (1820–1896) was born in Woodbridge, New Jersey. He began as an errand boy in the American Sunday School Union, and worked 21 there years. In 1851 he opened his own business at 669 Broadway. His specialty was religious books, pamphlets, sermons. He moved to third Street and 683 Broadway in 1852. In 1864 he went to 770 Broadway and Ninth Street for 12 years. In 1876 he moved to Twentieth Street and 900 Broadway, for 10 years. In 1884 his son Arthur D. F. Randolph became a partner. He then moved to 23rd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. In 1892 he moved to 192 Fifth Avenue. Source: N. Y. Times Obituary, July 8, 1896.
