Ando HiroshigeJapanese, 1797 - 1858
Hiroshige was famous landscape artist of the nineteenth century. He took the name of his instructor, Utagawa Hiroshige. From 1811 to 1830 he created prints of traditional subjects such as young women and actors. He died of Cholera in October 12, 1858 in Edo, now Tokyo. He did not invent the idea for a Tokaido Road series, Hokusai had produced at least two Tokaido Road sets before him, and Hiroshige produced several more sets, but his first one is the most famous.
