Beverly PepperAmerican, (1922-2020)
Born in New York City, 1922. Studied at Pratt Institute; the Art Students League in New York, and with Fernand Leger and Andre Lhote in Paris. Pepper began as a commercial artist director in NYC, but soon left for Paris to study painting. Painted from 1949-1960, then shifted her focus to creating monumnental outdoor sculpture. Many of her sculptures can be seen in public spaces throughout Europe and the USA. While continuing to create and exhibit large, abstract sculputre, Pepper returned to the canvas in 1987 and her work reflects gestural, expansive, colorful elements drawn from the power of nature. She has lived and worked in New York City and Italy since 1951.
