Byron Burford

Byron Burford was born in Jackson, Mississippi in 1920. He came to the University of Iowa to study with Emil Ganso, Phillip Guston and Grant Wood. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1942. For the next four years he served in the United States Air Force. Following the war he returned to the university to complete his Masters of Fine Arts degree. Upon graduation he was appointed to the art department faculty and he has taught at the University of Iowa since that time.
