Label TextMcCracken (B.S. ’66 electrical engineering), retired CEO of Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI). McCracken’s leadership led to the development of computers specifically designed for the creation and manipulation of 3-D images. SGI’s computers were used both for movies and television in Hollywood and for the development of early 3-D video games. From 1995 to 2002, every movie nominated for an Academy Award for Visual Effects had their special effects designed with SGI computers including the movies Jurassic Park and Forrest Gump. In 1995, McCracken was named Executive of the Year by R&D magazine and was presented the National Technology Medal award by President Clinton.
