Label TextThe Friley windows mural was conceived as the focal point for the dining space, giving the students a sense of belonging and community by featuring the names of their floors in the mural, as well as on the panels on the columns around the hall. The angular structure of the painting is a response to the shape of the ramp, the railings, and the lighting system within the dining center. The compressed and expanded linear motif of the design gives an almost accordion-like feel to the painting, and the floor names project out of the center as if from a megaphone. The color is saturated with assertive temperature shifts, while patterns collide with one another, allowing the names to layer on top of transparent layers creating a sense of exuberant connections with a strong feel of NOW.
