Label TextThe Raisbeck Endowed Dean of Business, David Spalding, came to Iowa State University in 2013 after spending nearly 30 years on Wall Street, including 11 years co-managing his own firm. Spalding held positions with Chase Manhattan Bank, First National Bank of Chicago, GE Capital Corporate Finance Group, and Lehman Brothers. In 1994, Spalding and three partners co-founded The Cypress Group LLC, a private equity firm that managed funds ultimately totaling $3.5 billion, and served as its vice chairman. He then spent eight years at Dartmouth College where he served as vice president of alumni relations and senior vice president and senior adviser to the college’s interim president. His position at Dartmouth College was the change in direction that eventually led him to Iowa State. During Spalding’s tenure the College of Business has seen a 39 percent increase in total enrollment. In 2017, the College of Business received a $50 million naming gift from Debbie and Jerry Ivy. This is the largest-ever commitment to the college, resulting in the renaming of the college as the Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business. The college also received a $7 million commitment from the Gerdin Charitable Foundation to fund an addition to their building.
