Father A. J. Graves To Be Buried Today
Andrew J. Graves, one of Ames' most beloved pioneer citizens died at his home south of town Tuesday evening. The funeral serives are to be held in the Congregational church this afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. W. J. Minchin. The Masonic fraternity have charge of the services at the cemetery. He was born October 13, 1830, in Sherbun. Vermont. Came to Ames in 1864 as superindendent of the college farm.
He was Ames' first postmaster. When the Ames Savings Bank was organized June 1903, he was elected president and has held the position continiously since. He aslo organized the Story County Mutual Insurance Co. and has been its manager. The bank will be closed during the funeral service.
Four deaths have occured in this family in the past three years - Mother Graves, May 18, 1905; two sons Frank J., Feb. 16, and Zebina K., May 13, 1909; and Father A. J. Graves, Feb. 7, 1911.
