Label TextThis coverlet is easily recognized as the work of the Gilmour brothers. Woven in double weave in a blue and white color scheme, the coverlet features the brother's well-known sailboat trademark in the corner block and house and paling fence foot border. In the early 1830s, the Gilmour brothers emigrated from Kilmarnock, Scotland, as trained weavers. Approximately fifty coverlets spanning the years between 1838 and 1842 have been attributed as the brothers' work.
