Label TextDr. Beverly Crabtree (American, 1937-2016) served as dean and professor of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at Iowa State University from 1987 until her retirement in 1997. Prior to 1987, Dr. Crabtree served as dean of the College of Home Economics at Oklahoma State University for twelve years. She was a tireless advocate of the college and the profession since receiving her doctorate from ISU in home economics education. Students were always Dr. Crabtree's main focus as is evidenced by her selection as the 1994 VEISHEA Professor of the Year. She was president of the American Home Economics Association, president of the American Home Economics Association Foundation, and has assumed leadership roles in numerous professional and civic organizations throughout her career and retired life including current president of the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau. Among the many awards she has received are the Iowa State University College of Home Economics Centennial Alumni Award, the University of Missouri College of Home Economics Alumni Citation of Merit, the American Home Economics Association Distinguished Service Award, and the Ames Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year Award. Dr. Crabtree served as chair of the Oklahoma Governor's Advisory Committee on Children, Youth and Families; was invited to serve on the W. K. Kellogg Foundation Ad Hoc Advisory Committee on Rural America; and was appointed by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture to serve as the Home Economics representative on the USDA Joint Council on Food and Agricultural Sciences. Dr. Crabtree was unanimously selected as the first chair of the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Leadership Academy Advisory Board.
