Not on viewLabel TextChristian Petersen moved to Iowa in 1934, but for nearly a decade before that, he had occasionally visited Des Moines and carried out works for patrons in the state. The subject of this relief portrait is probably William Frederich Holford Godson (1868-1958), a career Army officer who had fought in both the Spanish-American War and World War I and who was probably stationed at Fort Des Moines at the time of Petersen’s plaque. Goodson was one of the engineers engaged in the raising of the battleship Maine.
